How one removal company was able to achieve 80% conversion rates with buzzmove
A case study with Dan Morley, owner, Move with Morley

Move with Morley is a removal company with headquarters in Bromley, Kent that carries out removals across Greater London and the Home Counties. Dan Morley, the owner, is a big fan of working with buzzmove. As he explains…

“Last year when I was really focused on converting leads, we were absolutely flying. We were converting 80% of the leads from you.

“We were getting around 5 leads a day coming through, and converting 4 out of 5. At one point, it was so much work that I had to start passing some of it on to other removal companies.”

“If you price sensibly enough and you’re quick on the phone, customers will respond to that”

How was Dan able to convert so many leads into paying customers?

“I’m in the office, so when a lead comes through I’m on it within a second. Customers like that. They think ‘You’re keen’. It’s worth doing because if you take too long they’re starting to look elsewhere by the time you get through.

“With any lead generation service, you know you’re up against 4 or 5 other removal companies. There’s a lot of competition. But if you price sensibly enough and you’re quick on the phone, customers will respond that.”

Is that all it takes to win more business? A quick response?

“Communication is important as well. Not just being fastest on the phone, but from after that point as well. You never know what you’re going to face on a removal job, so we have to be flexible and understanding.

“It helps to have done moves for reputable companies like the Metropolitan Police and the BBC. People often find that reassuring”

“For example, for home removals we usually get booked to do the move in the morning. But any property never really changes hands until the afternoon. Doesn’t matter when they book for – there’s problems with keys getting handed over, stuff like that. So you’ve got to have some give and take with customers and be flexible over the timing.

“Having a lot of experience helps. Maybe that’s something that comes through when I talk to people on the phone. But it helps to have done moves for reputable companies like the Metropolitan Police and the BBC. People often find that reassuring.

“Experience, communication, a quick response – these all help.”

“There’s a lot of bogus removal companies out there, so I’m all for customers doing their homework to avoid a bad experience”

Do customers ever ask for references?

“Not as much as they should,” Dan says. “That’s probably the best and fastest way to prove you can deliver. I’m always happy to give details of previous customers if people ask me. I wish more people would do that, really. Because with some of the references I’ve got I could probably win even more business.

“The other thing customers sometimes ask for is a breakdown of the price. Though that tends to be more common with office moves. But again, I’m happy to let them know how it works, what they’re paying for. There’s a lot of bogus removal companies out there, so I’m all for customers doing their homework to avoid a bad experience.

“There are a lot of costs involved in running a removal company – having the right insurance, fuel costs, labour costs, wear and tear on the vans. That kind of thing. If a company’s quote sounds too cheap then there’s probably a reason for that! I’ll always encourage any potential customers to do their homework.”

From an ex-Girls Aloud star to pigs from Darlington… Dan has seen – and moved – them all

In a removals career spanning more than 20 years, Dan has had a lot of interesting experiences. Not only has he carried out work for the BBC and the Met. He’s also moved his fair share of famous folk – including West Indian cricketer Dwayne Bravo. As well as the ex-Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding.

“That was a job we got through buzzmove, actually,” Dan explains. “The lead came through and I called them up. As I was talking to this woman she said, ‘There’s only one thing I have to tell you. You’re not moving me. You’ll be moving my boss Sarah Harding, the Girls Aloud singer. That’s not a problem for you, is it? Moving someone famous?’

“I said ‘no’, and then she said, ‘She probably won’t even be there’. But when we turned up, Sarah was there, just going through some of her stuff before we did the move. She was really nice. Even tweeted about us and how good the move was.”
